2010 FRC Excellence in Design Award Entry: Darwin’s Drivetrain

Project Overview | Full Robot Assembly | Drivetrain | Kicker | Electronics

Darwin’s 6-wheel drivetrain is very robust and in line with the five-year history of FRC1712 drivetrain designs.  With a four CIM motors powering a 6-driven wheel design though kit provided AndyMark Toughboxes, Darwin has more than ample ground speed and torque to traverse the field humps.  With his center wheels dropped 1/8″ compare to the four outer wheels (a trick employed by many FRC teams), Darwin’s effective wheel base is reduced significantly, reducing undesirable turning scrub that would draw redline amperage levels and trip breakers, while enhancing maneuverability greatly.
